High-riding Rickey Tarfa has qualified for the semifinals of the on-going BOA Lawyers League, where it will meet last year’s finalist, Olisa Agbakoba in the battle for the final ticket. The semifinals will hold on Sunday at the AstroTurf 2000, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Olisa Agbakoba lost the title narrowly to Falana and Falana last year and will want to correct its mistakes this term. But in Rickey Tarfa it will meet a team that has shown the difference determination and quality coaching can do to a side’s fortunes.

To qualify for the semifinals, Rickey Tarfa defeated SOOB/NICCOM 1-0, which is the same scoreline Olisa Agbakoba had in its victory over ALP/SPA.

In the second semifinal, defending champion, Falana & Falana will confront a Banwo/Ighodalo team that has been consistent in its determination to record its name on the trophy.

Banwo/Ighodalo defeated Advocaat by a lone goal scored by Koye Kekere-Ekun, while Falana & Falana had to rely on the luck of the penalty to overcome BA Law/Probitas by 3-2.

20 teams, divided into four groups of five each, began the race to the title from the preliminary stage of the five-week competition, which featured eight matches every week.

After the home and away knockout stage, eight teams qualified automatically for the quarterfinals from which the four semifinalists emerged.

The matches are holding at the AstroTurf2000 every Sunday and according to the organisers, as was the case in the earlier rounds, “in the event of a draw, penalties will be deployed as decider. In the shoot out, each team will be entitled to three penalties.”

“Teams are advised that a strict observation of kick off times is in force.”

The Lawyers League is held in memory of the late lawyer, Bankole Olumide Aluko, a founding partner in the law firm of Aluko & Oyebode, who passed on 15 years ago.
