Rivers set for Green, Obuah showdown as states prepare for FAs elective congresses

It is time once again for elections into the various offices at the states’ football associations. Already, the contestants have started counting their chickens even before the polls have been held.

The reason is simple: Stakeholders in various states’ congresses would decide the elections and most of the contestants know their supporters and can almost accurately predict the outcome of their contests.

One of the interesting contests will happen in Port Harcourt where incumbent FA Chairman, Chris Green, is being challenged by Rivers State PDP Chairman, Felix Amaechi Obuah, who is also the owner of Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) club, Go Round FC of Omoku.

Obuah recently relinquished control of Go Round FC to his wife to make him eligible to contest for the position.

Although there are forces pleading with Green, a lawyer, to withdraw from the race, sources say he is not ready to do so because he has a strong support base in the Rivers FA congress. Obuah’s loyalists also say he has already swayed the voters to his cause.

The state’s FA elections will hold first in Port Harcourt on January 30 before moving to Ogun and Kano states on February 6 and 9 respectively.
