Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, is worried by the poor quality of the defenders available to him, especially in the full back positions. The Super Eagles will meet South Africa in a Cameroun 2019 African Nations Cup qualifier in June and welcome the Indomitable Lions to Uyo in a Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier in August.

The team have played three matches under Rohr and won all, conceding two goals and scoring six. They lead Nigeria’s group of the World Cup qualifiers with six points to Cameroun’s two. Algeria and Zambia are on a point each. But the Eagles will meet Cameroun back to back in August and September, with the six points likely to determine the country that would qualify for Russia 2018.

According to owngoalnigeria.com, Rohr has prioritised the Super Eagles defence ahead of the resumption of the World Cup 2018 qualifiers, and the start of 2019 AFCON qualifiers.

Rohr had in the past lamented his lack of options regarding full backs, and restated the situation yesterday.“We are blessed with quality players in midfield and attack. But we could do with some more players in defence. To be able to achieve all we have in mind, we need options all over,” Rohr said.

He revealed, “Talks are ongoing with some players, and we are also monitoring some as well. We are confident of having a possible solution before our next game.”
