Sanwo-Olu Approves Tinubu’s Ex-ADC, Gbolahan Lawal As Oniru Of Iru

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the nomination and appointment of Prince Gbolahan Wasiu Lawal as the new Oniru-Elect of Iruland.

Lawal was Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Bola Tinbu when he was the Governor of Lagos State.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Gboyega Akosile, made the announcement in a statement on Friday.

The appointment took effect Friday afternoon.

This was after the Lagos State Executive Council meeting made final ratification.

Lawal will succeed late Oba Idowu Abiodun, former Oniru of Iruland, who passed on in the year 2019 at the age of 82.

Lawal, born on July 24th 1970 to late Chief T. A. Lawal- Akapo, the Ojora of Lagos (1977-1993) and Olori M. A. Lawal-Akapo. He is from the Ojora, Aromire, Shokun and Abisogun branch of Oniru Royal families.

He attended St. Gregory’s College, Lagos and holds an Executive MSc in CITIES (LSE, Cities) from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

The incoming monarch obtained an MSc in Violence, Conflict and Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London in 2008; a BSc Hons in Botany from the University of Port-Harcourt in 1992.

Lawal started his career as a Scientific Officer with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council at the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology in 1994.

He later joined The Nigeria Police Force and was commissioned as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent. He retired voluntarily in 2008 as a Superintendent of Police.

Lawal was a Senior Special Assistant on Special Projects to a former Lagos State Governmor, Babatunde Fashola (SAN).

In 2011, Fashola made him the Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperatives in Lagos State in 2011.

The Oniru-elect was the Commissioner for Housing under the administration of former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

He was again appointed as the Commissioner for Agriculture by Government Sanwo-Olu, a position he resigned from on Thursday.
