A 61-year-old man identified as Douglas Harold Green was charged with aggravated kidnapping in the course of committing unlawful detention and assault, TheGuardian reports.
Employees at the Provo River Resort told local police that the man threw his wife into the Provo River on Sunday.
Green said he threw his wife in the river ‘after she refused to do what he asked. The victim claimed she and Douglas were arguing over dinner arrangements. Douglas reportedly became angry and threatened to drown her in the river according to a report by Deseret.
The court affidavit states that Green dragged his wife to the riverbank and forced her in. When others tried to help the woman, ‘Douglas yelled at them to stay away.’

When Wasatch County sheriff’s deputies were called to investigate, they found the woman had bruises on both arms where she was grabbed. Green was arrested and booked into the Wasatch County Jail.

A firearm was the weapon in 59% of the cases. 39% of perpetrators had a criminal domestic violence history. 22% of these murderers were previously ordered to “treatment” by the court. 22% of the cases, children were either involved or witnessed the homicide. 34% of the perpetrators died by suicide after the homicide.
