The youth recalled that as a result of the nature and character of its emergence, the 8th National Assembly was bedevilled with “serious crisis of integrity throughout out its tenure while several millions of naira was unfortunately expended for an endless image laundering mission which took National Assembly to nowhere eventually.
“From inception till now, the 8th National Assembly was entrapped in avoidable self-serving long drawn battles with the presidency over frivolous issues that would majorly benefit the lawmakers not Nigerians.
“As this unwarranted battles continued, the image of our great country got battered the more and our three democratic institutions become the laughing stock in the international community for sheer display of ego, lack of focus, dearth of vision and sense of patriotism as exhibited by some federal lawmakers”.
As the 8th National Assembly was winding up, the youth said this was the time for critical stakeholders of democratic rule in Nigeria to join forces together and “ensure that the shenanigans which transpired in the 8th National Assembly do not, in any way, repeat themselves again”.
They resolved among others that to earn public confidence, redeem the battered image and reposition the National Assembly in its rightful stead as a well-respected legislative institution of national and global reckoning, the 9th National Assembly must be seen to be a progressive, people-centred, Vision-driven and result-oriented institution that has the determination to advance democratic ideals and deliver good governance to the people.
