Super Eagles stars call for peace in Plateau state

Ahead of the decisive final group match against Argentina in Russia, Super Eagles stars have lent their voices; calling for a halt to the killings in the country.

The Police Command in Plateau on Sunday confirmed the killing of 86 people in attacks on Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana-Ropp villages of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

Ahmed Musa, John Mikel Obi and Ogenyi Onazi had their beginnings in the embattled state.

Musa, hero of Nigeria’s 2-0 victory against Iceland last Friday, started his professional football career in Jos with the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).

He tweeted a ‘crying smiley’ photo with the hashtag #StopTheKillingsInPlateau while Ogu tweeted ‘#PrayForPlateau They need our prayers’.

Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion defender, Leon Balogun also hashtag #UnitedWeStandDividedWeFall which was accompanied by the photo of candlelight.

Nigeria face Argentina today in St Petersburg and the players will hope that their performances can bring joy to a troubled nation.

A win would guarantee their spot in the last 16 for a fourth time. They will be lifted after seeing Croatia humiliated the disorganized two-time winners, Argentina, 3 – 0 last Thursday.
