Ondo born Temitayo Rafiu Fadoju popularly known as Tayo Mix is a London based younger performing juju artist poised to ensure that the highlife juju tribe which describes our Nigerian music never dies.

He has recently released an album titled Prelude which has a total of four tracks and features Rev. Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi. According to Tayo mix, “I call my genre Juju spicy, just as the young and old dance to Sir Shina Peters music, that’s what I stand for. Even though you don’t understand the lyrics, you dance to the beats because it’s appealing.”

On the inspiration for his tracks, the music engineer said, “Nobody can make you happy but yourself, a lot of things happen around you and you want to give up, but then it depends on you to stand up and move on, that’s what I advocate.”

Recalling his sojourn into music, he said, “I started music at a young age, after I lost my mum; I lived with my grandma and went to church with her even though I have a Muslim background. Listening to gospel music in church drew me closer to music and spurs my passion.

“Juju music is Nigerian and over the years I have realised that young people and even foreigners appreciate and dance to it. And what makes music is how the beats and instruments used, turns out. Juju music makes you remember who you are and your roots.

He noted that he is after ensuring there’s a legacy for juju music as the likes of King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obe, Shina Peters who are doing amazingly well, he hos worried of what becomes of juju music when they are gone.

“My goal is to preach the ‘gospel’ of Nigerian music all over the world. I want the world to know that it is not just Hip Pop and Reggae alone. I look up to Tope Alabi because of her unique style of music even though it is gospel, she makes it enjoyable you want to listen to all the tracks.”
