A female Shot Put thrower from Delta State, Hannah Kemele, won the gold medal with a throw of 14.08m at the on-going 3rd National Youth Games in Ilorin
For the third time, Team Delta is sure of topping the medals’ table as the third National Youth Games end today in Ilorin, Kwara State.
At the maiden edition of the games in 2013 in Abuja, Team Delta topped the medals table with a total of 20 gold, eight silvers and eight medals. At the second edition held in Ilorin two years ago, Team Delta also emerged winner with nine gold, seven silver and 10 bronze medals.

And after one week of competition in Ilorin, Delta State leads the medal’s table with 17 gold, while their closest challenger, Ondo State, has 12 gold, with Akwa Ibom seating in the third position with 11 gold medals as at yesterday evening.
Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, told The Guardian in a telephone chat yesterday that he was sure of winning the Games. “We still have some athletics and boxing events, but from what I have seen so far, Team Delta will emerge champions again.
“If that happens tomorrow (today), Delta would have succeeded in winning the trophy for keep. I must commend our athletes and officials for their determination in making sure that the months of preparation, as well as the morale and financial backing by our state government is yielding good results,” Okowa stated.
