The MDCN is the regulatory agency of all medical and alternative medicine practitioners in Nigeria with a mandate to discipline any erring practitioners whose actions or in-actions fall short of the medical professional ethics.

The MDDT has equal jurisdictions with the regular High Courts in the country and its judgment could only be challenged at the Court of Appeal.

Delivering his judgment, the Chairman of the MDDT, Prof Abba Hassan, said that Maduako stood suspended for six months for count one and three months for count two.

The conviction of Maduako, one of the doctors at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba in Delta State standing trial for alleged professional misconduct, will run concurrently.

Others doctors from the FMC Asaba facing trial are Sunday Abiodun, Ogafe Ojenuwah, Oyefara Babatunde, Okoye Pascal Nnamdi, Anunnobi Chijioke Ralu, Adigba Ese Onodjohwoyovwe, Ogwu Robinson Onyekachukwu, Okoye Chukwuka and Iyiola Akeem Adewale.

The accused persons were charged with gross negligence in the management of a pregnant patient, Mrs. Rita Ogbuego. They all pleaded not guilty when the case charge was read to them individually, while the charge against one of the nine was however withdrawn.

The PUNCH reported that during the last sitting two other doctors were convicted, with their licences suspended for the maximum penalty of six months. [PUNCH]
