Truck Dealer ‘Dupes’ Businessman Of N2.7m

A truck dealer, Sunday Ugota, who allegedly obtained N2.7million from a businessman under the guise of selling him two truck bodies, Thursday appeared before an Ajegunle Magistrates’ Court in Apapa, Lagos.

Ugota, 35, was arraigned by the police on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

Prosecuting Superintendent Gabriel Ekundayo alleged that the defendant and others, who are at large, committed the alleged offence on May 3, 2019.

The court heard that the incident took place at Kirikiri Town in Lagos.

Ekundayo said: “The defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N2.7million, from the complainant, one Chibuike Okeke, under false pretence that he was going to sell two truck bodies to him. He failed to do so and did not return the money.

“The defendant stole N2.7million, property of the complainant.”

According to the prosecutor, the offences violated Sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Ugota pleaded not guilty.

Chief Magistrate M.K.O Fadeyi granted him N50, 000 bail with two sureties in the like sum, among other conditions.

Mr Fadeyi adjourned further proceedings till September 4. [THE NATION]
