The Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Mr. Kweku Tandoh, has reiterated that the commission’s mandate is to grow sports in the state from the grassroots, especially in schools, where they can be discovered at very tender age.

Speaking at a ministerial briefing to commemorate the third year in office of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, Tandoh also pointed at the policies, activities and programmes of the commission in the last one year, saying governor’s vision is to make Lagos Africa’s sports hub through a sustainable sports culture.

“Our mandate is to formulate and implement sports policies in the state; encourage mass participation in all forms of sports; work with schools and other agencies in the Ministry of Education to develop sports in schools; facilitate the training of athletes, coaches, and sports administrators in different sports in the state.

“We are to work with local governments through their sports committees in promoting and developing sports in the state; regulate and supervise activities of sports associations and sports committees in the local governments and all other sporting activities within the state; discover and nurture sports talents within the state, among others,” he said

Tandoh said the governor had approved the proposal for the development of a four-year strategic sports development plan for the Sports Commission, to be midwifed by the PricewaterhouseCoopers Limited, saying this was done in order to put the Commission on the right path in conformity with modern best practices in sports administration and management.
