The candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Omorinola Oyebimpe Oyebola (Triple O) has advocated for some things to encourage women in politics.
On a live radio programme on Women, she solicited most especially from the elites, professionals and the upwardly mobile executives to go out and vote. She made this plea based on her experience at the last presidential elections in her polling booth and others she covered in Abeokuta South 1 Constituency. She said aside vote buying which was evident across board, majority of the voters were from two (2) extremes of the society: the elderly (mostly women) and the very young (mostly boys). She said there was a need for more presence of all people to shun the notion that violence was evident during voting and other factors.
She also asked for support from our husbands (who are the head of the home) and the general public to show more support to women who believe in themselves enough to dabble into politics. She said as a mother, her constituency is extensive and encompassing.
She pleaded for all to shun vote buying, go out there and vote your conscience,do not sell your votes at such a ridiculous price, let us all vote in people of integrity and sincerity of purpose.
Triple O also implored all and sundry to come out en-mass on Saturday, March 9th to vote. “Endure the sun for just for a little while.” She enjoined the people not to mortgage their future and appealed to women to vote for fellow women for progress, constructive and a progressive future for us and our generations unborn.
She currently enjoy a wide support from different bodies including the OSU/OOU Alumni Association.
Aside the phone calls on the programme and comments from Mrs Ibironke, another woman contesting for the Ogun State House of Assembly in Ijebu North who corroborated Triple O implored women and our husband’s to support women in Politics.
