Yellow, Blue House excel at Shalom Schools meet

Parents and guardians running for fun at the Shalom Group of Schools annual inter-house meet, which held at the school’s sports ground…at the weekend.

Yellow House and Blue House were the stars of the 2017 Shalom Group of Schools annual inter-house sports meet held at the school sports ground, Baruwa Ipaja at the weekend.

The two houses topped the overall medals table with Yellow House winning the college category, while Blue clinched the top spot in the primary category.

Onyekwene Kelechi of Blue House emerged the overall best male athlete in the college category by winning three gold medals in the 200 metres, 100 metres and 4 by 100 metres senior category, while Mmesoma Onyekaonwu also of Blue House with two gold medals in the 800 metres, 4 by 100 metres relay and bronze medals in the 100 metres final won the girls’ category.

Epiphany Onyia and Emmanuela Nzekwe, both of Wine House, won the best athletes (male and female respectively) in the primary category.

Also excellent at the meet were Zainab Adekanbi of Wine House, who took the gold medal in the 200 metres senior girls final; Destiny Ani of Blue House, who beat Stanley Eze of Green House and Sonto Ibeakenme of Wine House to win the 75 metres junior boys final.

Blue House took the gold medal in the 4×100 metres senior boys relay, while the primary school category went to Yellow House.

In her welcome address, Proprietress of the school, Mrs. Adedayo Odeka urged the athletes to emulate the likes of Mary Onyali, Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps and Williams’ sisters, Venus and Serena, and work to become great athletes.

Shea Added: “I believe that some of these young ones will one day represent the country in one event or the other and I urge the parents to encourage their children develop their talents in sports.”
