Yemi Alade
It was a sober moment for the audience who gathered at the Akure edition of the 27-city Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour held at the Golden Events Centre, Akure, on Saturday, as the afro-pop singer, Yemi Eberechi Alade, simply known as Yemi Alade, reminisced about her late father, who happened to be an indigene of Ondo State.
The MTV African Music Awards 2015 and 2016 winner joined five other A-Listers to treat Glo network subscribers, who turned out in their thousands, to sublime ‘funtainment’ associated with the concert, which started in Awka, Anambra State, on April 15.
Yemi Alade was the third artiste for the night, with the duo of Korede Bello and Runtown, having taken their turn to thrill the audience. The female vocalist threw the hall into a pensive mood when she declared nostalgically that she hails from Ondo State and that her late father would have been proud of her “homecoming” if he were to be alive.
Stopping in her track, she declared, “It may interest you all to know that this girl standing before you tonight is actually from this great state –– Ondo State. My father was from Ondo State and I am happy that Glo brought me back home. If my daddy were to be alive today, he would be happy that his daughter is back home.”

The Jonny crooner thanked the audience for showing her so much love saying, “I am your daughter and your sister and I am delighted coming to my roots. I thank Globacom once again for this opportunity to see my people; I love you all.”
While Runtown literarily brought the roof down at the show, the greatest surprise of the evening of fun was Chibuzor Nelson Azubike, who goes by the stage name Phyno. The singer, who gained prominence with his genre of rap woven around his Igbo dialect, threw the audience off balance as he got the Yoruba-dominated crowd to sing every line of his tracks such as Connect, Alobam, Ezege and Fada fada with him.
Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa, Timaya, and the Kings of the Streets, Olamide (a.k.a. Baddo), who closed the show were on top of their games, as they both demonstrated why they remain among the biggest stars in the industry. While Timaya was both ‘spiritual’ and philosophical in his performance, Olamide took the show back to the streets and engaged the Omo Wobes in raw street lingo all through.
Actresses Uche Jombo and Juliet Ibrahim anchored the show, while the most celebrated Yoruba movie star, Odunlade Adekola, made celebrity guest appearance. The sensational female jukebox master, DJ Lambo, dished out hot vibes to the delight of the crowd.
