In addition dozens were injured in a head-on collision between two trains in the south of Italy, local media report. Emergency services are already at the scene trying to treat the injured.
The incident took place near the city of Bari on Italy’s Adriatic coast, between the rural towns of Andria and Corato. The two regional trains are normally well-used, but no official information has been released so far as to the exact number of people who have been injured.
