200 golfers for CBN Governor’s Cup Tournament

No fewer than 200 golfers have indicated interest to feature in this year’s Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor’s Cup Tournament scheduled for today at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.

Speaking on the event, S. I. Ameh, who is the captain of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, said preparations for the one-day tournament has reached the advanced stage.

Noting that the CBN Governor’s Golf Cup tournament has been on-going for 11 years, Ameh said the apex bank has kept to its promise to ensure sustained and regular competition for the promotion of physiological and mental well-being of competing golfers around.

Also speaking on the tournament, CBN Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, Isaac Okoroafor said the tournament is to create a relaxed and recreational atmosphere for distinguished personalities in government, the organised private sector, elder statesmen and members of the diplomatic corps.

“The annual tournament creates a platform for interaction and gingering a spirit of friendship among competing golfers, while encouraging partnerships and networking.

“I am glad to inform you that the CBN management is pleased that this tournament, otherwise known as “CBN Governor’s Golf Cup, has become an important feature in the calendar of events of this prestigious club of distinguished and eminent Nigerian and foreign nationals.

“Notwithstanding few challenges in the previous editions, we aspire to improve on the achievements recorded,” Okoroafor said.In his remark, the tournament’s secretary, Austin Nwachukwu requested the management of CBN to consider increasing the subsequent tournaments to two or three-day event, saying the one-day approved would be in two segments – morning and afternoon sessions featuring men’s categories one and two.

The players will compete in Men’s category one (Handicap 0-14); category two (Handicap 15-28), Gross men; ladies category one (Handicap 0-20); ladies category two (Handicap 21-30); CBN staff category, CBN retired staff category and CBN Guests category.

Other categories include veterans (men and ladies); auxiliary prizes for Nearest to the Pin for ladies, men and CBN staff; Longest Drive for ladies, men and CBN staff, while the overall winner would cart home the Best Nett prize, which Okoroafor said are trophies and plaques.
