Two hundred kidnapped persons have been released by their abductors in the last three weeks in Zamfara State.

This was made known by the state police commissioner, Alhaji Usman Nagogo while briefing newsmen in his office on Monday.

According to the commissioner, the abducted persons were released by the bandits without payment of any ransom and handed over to him as the leader of the peace and reconciliation committee.

He explained that the reconciliation arrangement initiated by the state government had been yielding results, adding that since the beginning of the arrangement three weeks ago, the bandits had been releasing their victims on a daily basis.

“We have been receiving kidnapped victims from their abductors. Now, we have received over 200,” said the commissioner.

He maintained that as a result of the peace accord, both farmers and Fulani herdsmen now moved freely without fear of being attacked or killed, calling on the people in the state to support the peace accord initiative.

The commissioner, however, called on politicians in the state to stop playing politics with security issues, stressing that the problem would not go away unless they desisted.

He however warned that the police command would not fold its arms and watch politicians using insecurity issues to cause confusion in the state for their selfish interest. [PUNCH]
