A 20- year-old boy attempted committing suicide, Wednesday, at Ughelli, Delta State, after his girlfriend allegedly rejected his love advances.
The boy, Jerry Bernard, was said to have drunk a substance used for laundry in combination with a popular insecticide after the sudden rejection by his girlfriend.
A source disclosed that the boy, who just secured admission into the university, was rushed to the hospital by his friend, “it was the friends that had come to check on him at the Makolomi that saw him on the ground with a suicide note by his side.”
Confirming the incident, a staff of the hospital said: “He was immediately taken to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Ughelli Central Hospital where he was resuscitated and is currently on admission pending his recuperation.”
Speaking further, the staff who spoke on anonymity, said: “Though the so-called girlfriend came to see him in the hospital on the same day he was admitted, it was discovered that he had consumed a large quantity of Jik mixed with insecticide.”
