Papa Wemba to grace Karibu Music Festival

One of Africa’s most popular musicians, Papa Wemba, will be among top artistes that will be performing during a three-day Karibu Music Festival set to be held at Mwakalenga grounds, in Bagamoyo, Coast region in November.
Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam, Sales and Marketing Officer of Karibu Music Promotions Company, Ernest Biseko, said the festival will involve domestic as well as international artistes, including the Congolese rumba musician, Papa Wemba.

He mentioned other artists from Tanzania as Juma Kassim ‘Nature’, Damian Soul, Jhikolabwino Manyika (Jhikoman), winner of the Bongo Stars Search 2008 Misoji Nkwabi, Isha Mashauzi and H-art the band.

“The festival is set to start on the 6th to 8th November and aims to promote cultural music and to share experience with other legendary artistes from all around the world,” he said.

Biseko said they will also conduct management and marketing seminars to musicians and music stakeholders to build their capacity and prop up the modernization of the music industry in the country.

“Apart from developing African culture, we want this to be the leading festival in East Africa that helps artists achieve their economic and development goals,” he added.

The festival is sponsored by Jebel Coconut, Legendary Music, K.I, Swiss Embassy, Precision Air, Coca-Cola, Green Park Village Residence, Nafasi Art Space, Advertising Dar, Tanzania Printers, Mwananchi Communication Ltd, Kaya Fm, Magic Fm, Focus Outdoor, Jovago, Kaymu and Time Tickets.

Biseko said the theme of this year is ‘Tanzania prestige’ where various arts from Tanzania will be exhibited to participants. Attu Mynah, Innovation Manager from Tanzania Brewers Limited (TBL), said they decided to sponsor the festival because they want to promote culture in general and urged people to go with their families and enjoy live band music from the artistes.

Tickets will be available online through karibumusic.org or and to the agents assigned to sell the tickets, for adults it will be 5,000/- at the gate 7,000 and Children will pay 2,500/-.
