Despite the fact that Laptops, clothes, books, clothing, furniture were lost in the raging fire at New Life Orphanage in Nungua late Wednesday afternoon, mysteriously three Bibles were left unburnt.
Items worth over thousands of cedis were also lost to the fire and it took the intervention of Fire Service Personnel to quell the blaze.
The fire started while the inmates were in school. Founder of the Orphanage Nii Afotey Botwe told Joy News’ Matilda Wemegah that they saw smoke billowed from the boys room where one of the beds close to the window was on fire.

“I run quickly to check when I realised that the fire was coming out. There was a lot of smoke and the extinguisher cannot do anything because there was a lot of smoke”.
Nii Afotey explained there was black-out in the neighborhood at the time of the incident and ruled out electrical fault as possible cause of the fire.
Inmates are in desperate need of a place to lay their heads as close to about 60 inmates of the New Life Orphanage in Nungua are putting up with residents in the community after the fire incident.
For more than 15 years the Orphanage takes in abandoned children handed over by the Social Welfare Department.
