A 45-year-old herbalist, Ademuyiwa Adelogba, was allegedly killed yesterday by his in-laws for beating their daughter. The incident occurred at Ifira- Akoko in Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Ademuyiwa, a native doctor cum farmer, according to sources in the town, was beaten to death by his in-laws over domestic disagreement with his wife, Itunu Adelogba. The dispute between the husband and wife, a source said, was as a result of the plan by the husband to marry another wife. After the fight between the man and his wife, Itunu was reportedly beaten to coma and hospitalised.
The fight started because the wife reportedly challenged her husband’s plan to marry another wife. Irked by the beating of their sister, the in-laws descended on Ademuyiwa and beat him to death. The source said Ademuyiwa informed his wife, who he married a few months ago, after divorcing her former husband, of his intention to marry another wife.
The source said an argument ensued between the man and his wife, which snowballed into a fight. Itunu was said to have fainted and was rushed to a nearby hospital in the town.

The source said the family and siblings of Ademuyiwa’s wife invaded the man’s home, beat him blue black with sticks and cudgel. The man gave up the ghost in the process. Ademuyiwa’s body was deposited at the mortuary of the General Hospital, Ipe Akoko. The source explained that this caused apprehension in the town as the family of the deceased threatened to revenge the death of their son.
The residents invited the police. The Divisional Police Officer at Isua, SP Abiodun Ojediran, said he received a midnight distress call from Ifira over the incident. He said there was tension in the rustic community as members of the husband’s family were planning a reprisal. The Area Commander in charge of Akoko Zone, Razak Rauf, said more policemen had been dispatched to the area to avert crisis and maintain peace.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, said one of the suspects, Adegboyega Adeola, had been arrested and transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation. Meanwhile, the Asiwaju of Ifira, Chief Boboye Ojomo, has called for peace in the community.
