One of the leaders of the Ogun State chapter of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, Alhaji Olayinka Oshinkoya has been abducted.
He was reportedly abducted on Tuesday around Paramount FM radio station area on the Siun-Kopape- Sagamu- Abeokuta Expressway, while travelling from his base in Ijebu Ode to Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The victim’s younger brother, Abolore Oshinkoya, said his brother alighted from his car to ease himself when an unmarked Honda, End of Discussion model, pulled up by and three gunmen alighted from the car. He added that the RTEAN boss was ordered at gunpoint to enter the kidnapper’s car.
The victim, who is the Chairman of the Ansar-ud-deen Society of Nigeria, Ijebu Ode Chapter, was said to be on his way to a meeting with the Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Commission in the capital city.
According to Abolore, his brother’s abductors have yet to make any contact with his family.
Abolore said the matter was reported at the Trade Fair Police Post on Kobape Road, but was referred to Ibara Police Division.
He said, “The Divisional Police Officer at Ibara went after abductors, hoping that their vehicle might develop mechanical fault on the expressway, but that effort was futile.”
Abolore said his brother’s abduction might not be unconnected with his ambition to contest for the chairmanship position of the transport union.
He claimed that he overhead one of his abductors warning Olayinka that he was toying with his life by vying for the position.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the police Anti-Kidnapping Squad was on the trail of Olayinka’s abductors.
“The matter is already being handled by the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence. The Anti-Kidnapping Squad have swung into action.
“We will fish out the perpetrators.”
