The Enugu State Police Command has commenced investigation into the death of no fewer than eight persons in a fatal motor accident that took place in Enugu.
A statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, said the accident, which left many people injured,occurred at about 7:15 pm, along Enugu/Portharcourt Expressway near University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Ituku Ozalla Enugu.
According to him, the accident occurred when the driver of a vehicle with registration number, AKWA IBOM KTD 58 LG, which was conveying people believed to be coming from a pilgrimage centre at Ezeagu Enugu state to Aba, Abia state lost control, forcing him to ram into a bush.
He added that about eight persons including women and three children died while the driver and twelve others were seriously injured.

“It was gathered that the driver of the said vehicle later identified as one Kenneth Nwigwe a native of Enugwu ukwu Anambra state but residing at Uratta ,Aba, Abia state while coming from Enugu axis of the road and heading towards Portharcourt ,had allegedly lost control and rammed into a bush and tumbled leaving about eight persons including women and three children dead on the spot and the driver and twelve others with several degrees of injuries.
“The injured are receiving treatment at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Ituku Ozalla while corpses of the Eight yet to be identified victims are deposited at the hospital Mortuary of the
University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Ituku Ozalla Enugu for identification and Autopsy as well as collection. he said
The Enugu state command of the Nigeria Police Force through its state traffic Unit have commenced a full scale investigations with a view to finding out the cause of the incident”
