How many 121-year-olds do you know who still go for runs in the great outdoors? The answer is undeniably zero, but we know one that’s still sprinting up staircases well into his centenarian years.
That 121-year-old is Corduroy, a cat from Sisters, Oregon who currently holds the Guinness World Records title for oldest living cat. Technically Corduroy is only 26, but that’s 121 in cat years, and for a feline, that’s pretty darn impressive.
According to the website Bored Panda, Corduroy was adopted from a shelter when his owner Reed Okura was just 7 years old. “It is an honour to have Corduroy in our life, I honestly don’t remember much of my life without him,” she told Bored Panda. “He is a wonderful companion and I hope to give him a happy and healthy life for many more years.”

Reed attributes Corduroy’s longevity to the fact that she never declawed him and always allowed him to go outside, where he could roam freely and even hunt.
Despite his old age, Corduroy is still in remarkably good health. In videos on his personal Instagram account, Corduroy can be seen jumping on furniture, running up stairs, and happily listening to someone play the piano while getting his head scratched.
Corduroy also has his own page on the Guinness Book of World Records website, which reports that he was born on August 1, 1989. Interestingly, in the comments section, two separate individuals claim to own cats that were born in March of that year. Could there be another cat or even two that might knock Corduroy off his geriatric throne?
Whatever the case may be, none of these cats are anywhere near as old as the world’s longest living cat was when he died. That title goes to Creme Puff, who was born on August, 3 1967 and finally passed away on August 6, 2005 a healthy 38 years and three days.
Lets hope that Corduroy makes it to at least that age.
