The Abia State chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Johnson Onuigbo, yesterday said the party is working to win the forthcoming general elections in a landslide in the state and not to rig it.
Onuigbo spoke on the alleged arrest of three PDP members with fake results in favour of their Presidential and National Assembly candidates in last Saturday’s postponed election in Umuahia last Friday.
Denying the allegation, he said it was the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) that was planning to rig the election, adding that they will not allow them to have their way no matter how much they tried.

“Their rigging plan will definitely not work once the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) determines to provide a level playing field for the parties in accordance with the tenets of democracy,” according to him.
Onuigbo, who said for rigging of an election to be possible there must be a compromise by the umpire, added that “the material for the election is with INEC. So, if you see it with anybody else hold INEC responsible.”
Arguing further that the era of ballot-box snatching is gone in the country, the onetime chairman of Umuahia North local government council expressed surprise over the postponement of the general elections “at the 11th hour.”
While explaining that the postponement will cause voter apathy, he appealed to the electorate not to be discouraged by it and to come out on the rescheduled dates to vote for candidates of their choice as part of their civic responsibility.
