In furtherance to the attainment of the 9 point smart agenda of Sokoto State governor, Ahmed Aliyu, the Sokoto state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala has expressed disappointment with teachers’ attitude when he went on an unscheduled monitoring and supervision exercise across selected schools in the state.
Prof. Ladan who expressed worry not only for the nonchalant attitude displayed by teachers in public schools also felt pained by their lack of commitment and absenteeism.
Amongst schools the commissioner visited included Junior Secondary School (JSS) Gidan Gara, Government Secondary School (GSS) Amanawa, JSS Bimasa, and GSS Tureta.
During the visit, the commissioner wondered why only 3 out of the 23 staff including the principal of GSS Tureta himself was absent.

While in JSS Bimasa the Commissioner saw poor attendance among both staff and students alike, indicating the possible glaring reality of other schools.
In his reaction to the development, the commissioner directed that both principals of GSS Tureta and that of JSS Bimasa been given query for absenteeism, nonchalant attitude to duty, and failure to ensure regular attendance.
According to the commissioner, quality education can only thrive with dedication, accountability, and commitment to assigned responsibilities even as he assured of effective supervision going forward.
Prof. Ladan was accompanied on the visit by the ministry’s Director of Adminstration, Abubakar Umar Salame, the Director of Quality, Abdulkadir Umar Alkammawa, and the Director of Quality Assurance, Arabic Board, Muhammad Sani Usman.
