All is set for the 14th Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF), which will run from October 9 through 13 at Silverbird Galleria, Abuja. This year, the festival will train young Nigerians in the basics of Canon DSLR filmmaking techniques and photography. It is in conjunction with Canon Central and North Africa office. The training workshop will see 60 shortlisted Nigerians honing their skills on filmmaking in the fundamentals of cinematography and photography. Sixty successful applicants will benefit from the training, organizers have said. The training will start from October 5 through 10 in Abuja.

Founder of Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF), Mr. Fidelis Duker, informs that the objective of the festival is to offer a contemporary and liberal platform for world filmmakers to exhibit the excellence of filmmaking, noting, “The vision of AIFF is to build capacity within the filmic genre and also act as a catalysing platform for economic empowerment of those working in the creative sector.

“There is no way majority of this applicants will ever remain the same after completing this training workshop, as we are simply teaching them how to fish rather than giving them fish to eat. They will ultimately garner skills and also become self-sustaining creative entrepreneurs. Also returning for the second year running is the American Film Showcase, which opens in Nigeria, as part of the 14th Abuja International Film Festival; it is open to the public. The U.S. Embassy in Abuja will be partnering us for the second year running to showcase contemporary American documentaries, offering a view of American society and culture as seen by independent filmmakers.”

Executive Director of 14th Abuja International Film Festival, Temitope Duker, said this year’s edition promises to be a bumper package as there are several master-classes and workshops for the industry stakeholders.

Expected at the event would be Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, his counterparts in the Federal Capital Territory and Water Resources, Alhaji Mohammed Musa Bello.
