The Federal Government has directed the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to resume train operations on the Abuja-Kaduna corridor.

The train service was suspended in March after an attack on the rail track by bandits.

The attack led to the death of eight persons, several people were left injured, while over 60 passengers were kidnapped.

The announcement of the resumption is contained in a statement by the Deputy Director of Public Relations of the NRC, Yakub Mahmood.

The government said the safe rescue of passengers kidnapped was a top priority, adding that the resumption should not be perceived as abandonment or a nonchalant attitude of the government towards their plight.
