The All Progressives Congress (APC) may have a case of an unprepared helmsman leading it into the 2023 General Election battles as the party’s new National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has admitted that he did not entertain any thought of leading the ruling party until forces led by President Muhammadu Buhari propelled him into contesting the post.
Adamu stated this on Wednesday, 30 March, 2022 while making his debut at the national secretariat of APC in Abuja, after his emergency as the national chairman of the party at last Saturday‘s national convention of the party and taking over the APC from its erstwhile Chairman, Caretaker/ Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, (CECPC) Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State.
However, Adamu stated that he had propped up himself to lead the APC since it dawned on him that he was the choice of the President and pledged to battle it out to victory for the APC in 2023.
He said: “A month ago, I didn’t know I will become the chairman of APC. Here I am today receiving the instrument and authority from the outgoing chairman. Only God can do this. It’s not my personal wisdom nor my charisma”.
Adamu thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for helping him and other APC National Working Committee (NWC) members to emerge victorious at the APC National convention.
His words: “First my address goes to God Almighty then to our leader and father of the nation, President Mohammadu Buhari and other eminent leaders of this party who put heads together to make this possible. May God reward them”.
He said the NWC under his watch had the major task of uniting the APC and making it stable ahead of the 2023 General Elections.
Adamu added: “For me, by the time we start working, our task will be how we handle the elections as a party, how we win the general elections. People are saying that APC does not have an incumbent on the ticket. We will have the honor of the integrity and legacy of the incumbent president on the ticket”.
He condemned the Kaduna train terrorist attacks, saying: “It’s unfortunate what happened to the train two days ago. We have not gotten the exact figures yet. But whatever it is, it not ideal to lose any life, not to talk of lives”.
Buni congratulated Adamu on his victory at the national convention.
His words: “Let me use this opportunity to congratulate you on your well-deserved victory at the national convention. Also I want to thank the former Caretaker Committee members who did their best to make sure that the party, from where we started, ended well at the national convention”.
