Activist Narrates His Encounter With An Almajiri Boy He Found Sleeping On The Street

An activist, Shuaib Izge narrates his encounter with a Almajiri boy he found sleeping on a street in Borno state.

Izge said he woke the boy from sleep to ask what was wrong with him and he was saddened by the boy’s response.

He said the boy told him that he is hungry and since morning he has not had anything to eat.

Izge condemned parents who give birth and send their children into the streets in the name of acquiring Islamic education.

“If you cannot take care of them they shouldn’t have give birth to them (sic),” he wrote.

Though Almajiris are a popular sight in Northern Nigeria, Northerners reacted to the photo with outrage.

Late last month,the Kaduna State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Mohammed-Baloni  confirmed five new cases of Covid-19 in the state.

She said, “the new cases are among Almajirai who were recently repatriated from Kano.”
