The governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Rivers State, Mr. Victor Fingesi, yesterday led members and supporters of the party to embark on environmental sanitation exercise of markets in the state.
This is as a Federal High Court sacked Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs as the governorship candidate of the Accord Party ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to replace his name of the ballot with Sir Precious Baridoo.
Speaking to newsmen at the Creek Road Market, Port Harcourt, shortly after the sanitation exercise, Fingesi, decried the level of dirt on the streets of the state capital, saying the if elected into office, his administration will return Port Harcourt to its Garden City status.
The ADP governorship candidate said: “We think that as we are campaigning and we are seeing dirt along where we are campaigning, we think that it is not just good and I don’t see anything wrong with assisting to get rid of the refuse on the streets.
“This one is just blocking the divider, people cannot cross here. Even though there are son many other places to cross by, I think of is good to keep Port Harcourt clean.

“I will turn Port Harcourt back to the Garden City it used to be. There will be no piece of thrash on the streets of Port Harcourt.
“Presently, Port Harcourt is extremely dirty and not good for the health of residence of Port Harcourt. So, I think that volunteers should come out and help us clean Port Harcourt. After that, we will have a good and proper system put in place clean Port Harcourt.”
Fingesi said there is the need to improve on the forthcoming Governorship and House of Assembly elections so as to avoid the hitches noticed during the just-concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections.
He said: “Well, the presidential election has come and gone and there were hitches here and there. Bit, of course, it is very African in nature that you must have one or two hitches. Having said that, I think we can improve on what happened at the presidential election.”
Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, has declared former Chairman of Accord Party, Precious Baridoo, as the duly nominated governorship candidate of the party in Rivers State.
Delivering judgement on a suit brought in by Baridoo, the presiding judge, Justice
Emmanuel Obile, declared that Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs cannot participate in the governorship election because he was not duly nominated at the party’s primary.
