The growing trend of art fair around the world is also getting attention in Nigeria, so suggests a new addition, Affordable Art Fair two years after Art-X Lagos made its debut as West Africa’s first art fair.

For Affordable Art Fair, its Ibadan maiden edition, according to a statement from the organisers, holds from April 20 through 22, 2018 at the Initiative For Information, Arts and Culture Development in Nigeria, Leventis Building, 54 Magazine Road, Jericho, Ibadan. The statement added that the 3-day event would open on its first day to invited guests only and to general public on subsequent days.

“The Affordable Art as an idea came about because Ibadan was once the centre of art and culture and we want to put Ibadan back on the map for art, making it a focus and locus in addition to Lagos, which is densely concentrated,” the initiator of the project, Oyinda Adelumola, said. “We seek to expand the market for art away from Lagos and bring more people to the art collecting fold.”

However, it appears that Affordable Art Fair is not exactly using the traditional gaĺleries format that art fairs are known for around the world. There was no mention of art galleries in the press statement.

“The fair will feature works by various artists, established and new, including Victor Ehikamenor, Adewale Alimi, Ogaga Tuodeinye, Isaac Emokpae, Lateef Olajumoke, Bruce Prins, Joel Arueya, Lawrence Leo, Temidayo Beduru, Obi Chigozie, Anthonia Chinasa, Ato Arinze, Nathalie Djakou Kassi, Tega Akpokona, and Peter Kiladejo.”

Among other features of the fair are photography section and “market place.” Other highlights include: Talk on Art As An Alternative Asset by Adedotun Sulaiman, renowned art collector and patron. Spoken Word presentation by Dr. Tony Marinho, poet, medical practitioner and art activist and Music Acoustic Set is by Brymo.
