After failed U-17 Women World Cup bid, NFF demands technical report from coaches

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says it is still waiting for the national U-17 women team coach, Bala Nikyu to send his technical report before taking a decision on the Flamingoes’ inability to qualify for the 2018 FIFA U- 17 World Cup.

Cameroun last weekend held Nigeria to a 1-1 draw in Yaoundé to qualify for the World Cup on the away goals rule. The first leg of the tie ended in a 2-2 draw in Benin. Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, NFF General Secretary, Sanusi Mohammed said the U-17 women national team’s inability to qualify for the cadet World Cup was a rude shock to the NFF.

He added that the  team’s technical crew were in the best position to let Nigerians know the reason the Flamingoes failed to  secure victory in Yaoundé. Sanusi promised that the body would work round the clock to develop Nigerian football at the youth level to forestall any future occurrence of such failure in major football events. 

According to him, “The NFF has just finished its FIFA summit in Lagos and we have not yet received the technical report on the Flamingoes.“The issue of the Flamingoes not qualifying for the World Cup should be directed to the NFF technical committee because the coach is expected to send his report to the committee.
From there it will get to the board for proper review before making any pronouncement.

“The NFF is not happy that the Flamingoes could not qualify for World Cup. We would work out modalities to avoid the recurrence of such anomalies.”This will be the first time Nigeria has failed to qualify for the women U-17 World Cup since the maiden edition of the tournament in New Zealand 2008.
