Following the postponement of the February 16 presidential and national assembly elections, some group of aggrieved National Youth Service Corp members led by Ifeoma Ozioma have filed a suit at the Federal High Court , Abuja against the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) claiming damages amounting to about N7,198,000,000 being the total calculation of N15,000 allowance per each NYSC Adhoc staff.
This was made known by Barrister Amobi Nzelu at a press conference held in Abuja yesterday in pursuance of the case.

According to him, “Before 16th of February, INEC engaged some Adhoc staff to enable them conduct the election for 16th of February. Earlier in the month, they were taken for a 2-day refresher course to pay them N8,000 and the amount wasn’t paid to them. On the 16th, they were to be paid N15,000 that is for adhoc staff and four were posted to one polling booth.
“They were deployed to the place of assignment till 3am only to be told they have postponed the elections till 23rd.That is a contract between the parties. Majority of them arrived five hours to the time of the elections. And they are asking to be paid for the job done.
“In a contract that has been entered by parties, you can not single handedly utter it. Some went to Sokoto, Anambra, Delta, and just before 3am, the INEC Chairman came to announce the postponement. So we going to court to claim damages for the period they spent which INEC didn’t pay.”
