There is uncertainty as tension builds at the very polling unit (PU) 006 Ajao Estate where thugs destroyed ballot papers and boxes during the Presidential/National Assemby elections.

At 7.35 am, a few people believed to be party agents and three policemen were seen discussing the ugly event of February 23 and wondering if voters would dare to come out to vote.

“Nobody will come out”, The overheard one of them saying. “Even the policemen are not carrying anything (guns)”.

The statement appeared to have infuriated one of the police officers who engaged three of the men in exchange of words, forcing them to move 50 metres away from the actual location.

No INEC staff was seen at 7.57am, as the three police officers continued to intercept few vehicles some of which are believed to be conveying a few voters trying to access their polling units.

One of the people straying around the polling unit, observed that it was “most unlikely that people will come out to vote here today, because by this time on February 23, people had already come out in their numbers. I think they are now too scared to come out, not knowing what to expect.”

The had reported that ballot boxes and papers were destroyed by gun-weilding thugs who scared voters away in at least three locations in Ajao Estate, Isolo, during the February 23 Presidential and National Assembly elections, forcing security men, INEC officials and voters to flee the area.

One of the policemen fleeing the attack had to take refuge inside the car of this reporter.

The officials came back to cart award the remnant of the damaged polling materials 30 minutes after the thugs were gone.
