Akwa United unveils 12 new players for 2018/2019 season

Akwa United Management has unveiled 12 new players for the 2018/2019 football season, which kicks off on January 13.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, the chairman of the club, Elder Paul Bassey at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo said the new players were brought in to help the club actualized its dreams of winning the league this season.

The new sign-ins has three foreign players, Jean Efala, a goalkeeper from Cameroun, Adou Blaise, a center back from Cote d’Ivoire and Alberico Da Silva, a midfielder from Brazil.

He believes that with these players and others, the momentum Akwa United is known in Nigerian football would be sustained.

Other notable players unveiled by the club yesterday were Mfon Udoh, Juwon Oshaniwa, Markson Ojobo, Ndifreke Effiong, Atuloma Emeka, Ocheme Edoh, Wilson Elu, Wisdom Fernando and Samuel Akpan.

Bassey lamented the current situation in the country’s football, describing it as unfortunate, adding, however, that normalcy would return to the game when the new season kicks off on January 13.

He observed that, as an abridged league it would be difficult to execute, but assured the club supporters and football stakeholders in the state that the team would strive to make them proud of the club.

“In order to start well, we have gone ahead to buy what we considered to be very good players that would help us realize our dreams. It is our belief that, we will start well; it is abridged league, if we start well, we will maintain the momentum we had last season,” he said.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the club’s anthem and two
new assistant coaches.
