The Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State will hold its state congress today.

The congress is expected to elect state executive committee of the party that will pilot its affairs in the next four years.

The party had on Tuesday and Thursday conducted its ward and local government congresses.

No fewer than five factions of the party would present candidates for the congress.

Though there was large turnout of members in the earlier congresses, a faction of the party led by Mr. Tony Nwoye boycotted the congresses.

The group, under the aegis of Anambra State PDP Stakeholders, had addressed press conferences saying the group would not participate in the congresses.

The group alleged that the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, had hijacked the process.

Speaking through Nwoye, the group said, “The PDP is not the gate to heaven. If this impunity continues, our members will explore other options.

“Our members are being forced to consider other options if this matter is not properly addressed. It is unfortunate that it is the same people that had made it impossible for the PDP to win elections in the past that are out to cause confusion this time.

“We can no longer accept their antics and we want to tell them that the PDP is not the only gate to heaven.”

Nwoye stated that 98 per cent of the PDP members in the state were not aware of the congresses because of the poor handling of the exercise by Metuh.
