Anthony receives top photo prize for Bonafide Squatters

Honourable Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism, Lagos State, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, officially presented the USD$10,000 prize money to the winner of National Geographic/LagosPhoto Portfolio Review, Mr. Obayomi Anthony.

The brief ceremony took place in the office of the commissioner last week in Alausa, Ikaja, Lagos, where the Director of African Artists’ Foundation/LagosPhoto, Mr. Azu Nwagbogu, also emphasised the commitment of the foundation towards the development of arts in the state and in the country at large. 

Ayorinde also pledged the support of Lagos State Government in promoting the arts and congratulated the winner. He also applauding African Artists’ Foundation for a job well done in bringing the world to Lagos for the LagosPhoto Festival, a yearly international photo festival hosted by the foundation.

He assured the foundation on collaboration opportunities for upcoming projects.
 
The first and only international arts festival of photography in Nigeria, which runs from November 24 to December 15, 2017 invited photographers from across Africa to submit portfolios for review and an opportunity to win USD$10,000.

In over a thousand entries received and over 200 reviewed by a jury that consisted of a team of photographers and artists – international photographer, Andrew Esiebo, also a musician, TY Bello, President Muhammadu Buhari’s photographer, Bayo Omoboriowo, Associate Photo Editor, National Geographic, Jennifer Samuel, Vice President, National Geographic, Kaitlin Yarnall, and international photographer, Bas Losekoot.

Obayomi Anthony came tops with his series titled Bonafide Squatters.
