APC members from Tiv communities defect to PDP in Taraba

Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from across four local councils in Taraba State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A former lawmaker in the defunct Gongola State, David Mtuhem, led the defectors to the PDP secretariat in Jalingo, the state capital.

He disclosed that the inability of the APC leadership at the national level to protect the lives and property of the Tiv communities from the incessant attacks by the herdsmen compelled them to dump the party.

The defectors, who came from Wukari, Ibi, Gashaka and Bali Local Councils, lamented that their sojourn in the APC “was a bad luck to the Tiv nation.”

He expressed confidence that the PDP “will wipe away our tears by protecting our interests”

Mtuhem said their return to the PDP was to ensure that the new party emerges victorious in both presidential and governorship polls in 2019.

He stressed that grassroots mobilisation in the state had commenced in the various local government areas.

The ex-lawmaker called on Tiv communities across the country to urgently join forces with the PDP, adding that the APC under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari does not have the interest of the Tiv people at heart.
