60 Armed Men Invade Ogun Community

There was heavy gunfire in Idiagbon, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State when about 60 armed men invaded the community.

The men who the police suspect to be land grabbers, attacked the community, causing confusion among residents.

Policemen from Onipanu division were said to have engaged the assailants in a gun duel, consequent upon which two of them were arrested.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday, Ogun police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, identified the arrested suspects as Olaolu Fashina and Akinshola Oluwasanmi.

Oyeyemi disclosed that a distress call had been received by the police in Onipanu that “the village was under attack by men suspected to be land grabbers, numbering about sixty and armed with dangerous weapons.”

He added that the DPO of the Onipanu division, CSP Bamidele Job, had detailed his men and moved to the scene.

Sighting the police team, the hoodlums, who stormed Idiagbon on bikes, began to fire gunshots, even as they tried to escape.
However, the policemen were said to have pursued them in collaboration with some residents, leading to the apprehension of two of them.

The police image maker maintained that two live cartridges and one Bajaj motorcycle registered as, TTD 472 VN, were recovered from the suspects.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Lanre Bankole, has directed that the two suspects be immediately transferred to the state CIID in Abeokuta for discreet investigation, mandating that the fleeing members of the gang be hunted for.
