“Daddy, mummy, come and pay my school fee.” This is the odd song on the lip of our kids during academic session. Fareed and Nadra, children of my brother, are adepts in it.
Melody of the rhythm notwithstanding, the music is a rebellious number to pressure defaulting parents to fulfill their own side of agreement.
After all, the kids are now speaking English, including referring to their mother as mummy.
Hahahahahaha! Is mother really mummy as teachers have inscribed onto the tongue of the innocent pupils?
Pardon my digression here but check a good dictionary for a surprise confirmation of what mummy really is.
Do parents need to be reminded, harassed and embarrassed before they pay for the priceless service they enjoy from schools of their children?
This ingratitude is not only despicable but also a death sentence on the operation of schools, some of which are funded by bank credit facilities.
Under the unfortunate circumstance, teachers, who creatively composed the ‘hate’ song, would have to endure delayed salary or outright unpaid arrears.
As September is gently knocking on the door, many parents are already gasping for breath when they should be clinking glasses of wine for the systematic progression of their kids.
But is it absolutely fair to tie the poor parents to the stake?
Is it also right to turn a blind eye to the alarming news of workers’ plight, which offers a little hope of subsiding soon?
Just last week, Security and Exchange Commission, SEC, announced the disengagement of about 43 in its workforce and closure of four zonal offices. Justified or otherwise, jobs have been lost!
This is not talking of reporters who diligently inform the public about the sufferings of others but have nobody to report their own pains. It’s sad! So, so sad.
Isn’t it sad to work so hard and return home with a tale of tortoise and its wife?
Nonetheless, when there is life, there is hope. What a lifeless hope! Yet, I am very positive.
Nigeria go survive. My Barry would have sung “Olohun ba wa solu dero, lataye Buhari” (May God bring relief to us from the administration of Buhari}
That’s MY PERCEPTION.
Special thanks to Mr Rasak Moruf for his faith.
Happy new work week!
