Perpetual Atife (also known as Perpie) is an incredibly talented, smooth and soulful saxophonist, songwriter and singer. At a live studio concert on February 1, at Penthouse Family Studio, the artiste rendered inspirational songs that captivated her fans. They were so thrilled at her performance that they asked for more even after the show had ended.

Beyond dazzling her guests, she presented an enchanting foretaste of her forthcoming album, ‘Meditation.’ Part of her plans is to release a debut collection later this year. From the performance experience, her fans are out of breath as they await Perpie’s debut.

At the Steinway Showroom, venue of the concert, the atmosphere was reminiscent of a similar concert by MTN Foundation on March 20, 2017, at MUSON Centre, where Perpie starred as lead performer, as one of the protégées of the music programme. Last Thursday, the representative of the foundation was on hand to cheer their beneficiary, who has consistently made them proud about sponsorship of the music education initiative.

Executive Secretary of MTN Foundation, Nonny Ugboma, had said enthusiastically, “We at MTN Foundation are extremely proud of who Perpie has evolved into over the years. She is simply a star! Perpie has become a central part of the foundation. This is why we want her around at every event.”

Also, Ms. Rachel Agidi of Home for the Blind & Partially Impaired was given a chance to mount the stage. She crooned Dare’s awesome song, ‘Pray for me.’ It was a display of unadorned talent at its best. So outstanding she was that you wondered if she had undergone any formal training, impairment or not.

“Perpie is a star destined for the international scene. However, she has only just begun exploring the Nigeria landscape,” Jennifer Omatseye (actress) said while giving her impression of the concert. “To be honest, I never knew Perpie could sing like this. I was of the idea she only does saxophone. I am literally captivated by her performance today. I like her songs a lot. She connects so well when she sings and plays the sax. My experience today is quite evocative of the MUSON alumni event when Perpie held a note for a reasonably long time like Femi Kuti.”

One of the highpoints of the show was when Perpie intoned ‘Beautiful,’ which is a track in her upcoming album. It is a song of profound gratitude to God: “You make me beautiful as you are beautiful” and reflects on God’s graciousness and dependability.

By the time she performed another song that reassures undiluted commitment entitled ‘We l’uche’m,’ the audience was enraptured. They sang fervently along while the percussionist and guitarist went berserk and pitiless on the instruments. Perpie also rendered ‘Onishe Iyanu,’ originally done by Nathaniel Bassey, and it was also well-received. A popular song, she dedicated to Pastor Itua Ighodalo, who was absent at the occasion.

Besides the MC (Chelsy Tariah of Smooth FM), other special guests at the event included Ayo Ajayi, Onome Atife, Mrs. Nnenna Obiejesi, Bishop S. P. Jedafe, Mrs. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Philip Uzo, Mrs. Hariba Harry-Pepple, among many other guests. The occasion also coincided with Perpie’s birthday; thus it was a double celebration for the multi-talented artiste.
