The Federal Government has said that security personnel of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will be licensed to carry weapons in airports.
Minister of Aviation (State)Hadi Sirika revealed this on Monday in Katsina at the 2018 (Aviation Security) AVSEC retreat.
According to Sirika, deliberations on the initiative were being finalised for approval, stressing that the plan would strengthen the integrity of the airports factoring the threats facing the sector.

“The Federal Government approved AVSEC to bear arms, which is a notable achievement in this administration’s effort at improving the general safety of its citizenry and passengers passing through our airports,” the minister added.
He further said that the rebranding of AVSEC was vital in building its brand identity and creating a recognisable corporate identity for officers to make them more professional.
In addition, he stated that some countries have taken keen interest in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
