The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon called on Wednesday in Kinshasa DRC, for further efforts aiming to promote peace for the development of the member states of the Great Lakes region.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the conference on private investment in the Great Lakes region, in which Angola was represented by its Vice-President, Manuel Vicente, the UN Secretary-General considered “peace and development two sides of the same coin” and “sources to eliminate conflicts”.

He said that the Great Lakes region is the richest of the African continent and urged the region’s leaders to promote a climate of “responsible investment” that contributes to the “creation of decent jobs, improve the citizens’ living conditions and hope “.
Ban Ki-moon urged governments and investors to create partnerships for economic integration that contribute effectively to the creation of wealth and eliminate outbreaks of conflict.
The UN leader spoke of the need for good governance and the rule of law institution that fosters economic development to ensure good quality of populations’ living standards, thus prioritizing women.
He called for inclusive consultations amongst the employers, the state and civil society to identify the promotional opportunities of sustainable development in each country.
Ban Ki-moon advises governments to adopt resolutions to address the challenges resulting from climate change, agreed last December in Paris, France.
