The Chairman, Akwa United Football Club, Elder Paul Bassey has urged his players to make good use of the FIFA World Cup break by engaging more on their personal training.
Again, he admonished them to ensure that they watched all the matches so as to learn new skills and techniques that would help them play better when they resume for the break.
Speaking during a farewell get-together with the players of the team to officially inform them of the break, Bassey congratulated the team and workers for their feat so far, saying their contributions and sacrifices have led them to the second position on the log.

“I wish to thank all of us for all the hard work and sacrifices we have made to move this club forward, Let me quickly remind us that the battle is not yet over, we are only embarking on break because of the FIFA World Cup that is coming up in Russia from the 14th of this month.
“Gentlemen, the World Cup is an ample opportunity for you to learn more footballing skills at the highest level.
As you will be enjoying the FIFA World Cup with your family and friends, remember that, you are professional footballers, watch the football festival with keen interest and do your best to learn new skills and techniques that will help you to improve your skills.
“Discipline yourselves as professionals and stay away from those things you know may ruin your career. Maintain your fitness level and ensure you return in good shape to complete this NPFL battle were you left off,” he said.
Earlier, the coach of the team, Abdu Maikaba charged the players to remain focused on the task ahead of them and ensure that they use the World Cup break to correct their weaknesses in order to get back stronger for the remaining matches of the season.
