Beach Olympics debuts at Eko Atlantic City

The maiden edition of the Beach Olympics competition has been scheduled to hold between March 3 and 4 at the Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event, which will include 15 games, are categorised into three: the sand sports, the speed sports and the strength sports. The sand sports are; volleyball, wheelbarrow race, High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump.

The strength games are Beach Put, Drag race, Sumo wrestling, Truck Tyre race and Tug of war and lastly the Speed games are made up of 50m Sprint,100m Sprint, 4X50m Relay, 50m backward sprints and 50m Sack Race.

Of the 15 games, there are male categories, female categories, male only categories and the combined category. The games with the male and female categories are High jump, long jump, triple jump, Wheel-barrow race, 50m Sprint, 100m Sprint, 50m backward sprints and 50m Sack Race.

According to the organisers, the male only categories are games that are strictly for men. They are Beach Put, Drag race, Sumo wrestling and Truck Tyre race. The combined category are the game that involve both male and female participation, they are 4X50m Relay, Volley ball, and Tug of war.

Speaking at a conference heralding the event in Lagos, the Discovery Brands Management, Account Director, Mr. Dapo Onamusi, said, “this sport event is a first of its kind in Nigeria because it features 15 games with some peculiar to this competition all of which are engaging and fun.”
