The Benue State government has appealed to the people of the state to avoid any act that would prevent the presidential election from holding on Saturday.
Briefing newsmen after the state executive council meeting yesterday, in Makurdi, the state capital, the commissioner for information, Comrade Joseph Shimaor, said that the state government was aware that some elements want to disrupt the election so that they would use the opportunity to rig the poll.
Shimaor therefore appealed to the people to conduct themselves peacefully during and after both the presidential and governorship elections holding on Saturday and March 2, respectively.
“The decision of the executive council was to ensure peaceful, credible free and fair elections in the state,” he added.

Shimaor said that the council also directed the ministry for agriculture to develop modalities for the distribution of the tractors acquired by the state government to farmers.
He said that this was to enable the farmers use the tractors for the coming cropping season.
During the meeting, Mr. Tsenongo Abancha was sworn in as special adviser to the governor. Abancha served as adviser to the governor on Bureau for Rural Development, but was indicted by the Justice Kpojime commission set by the Samuel Ortom administration to investigate funds of the state.
Abancha however was asked to resign and refund a particular amount of money, which he did.
He was therefore reinstated by the governor as a special adviser, after he had cleared himself, Shimaor said.
