Plateau Peacocks, Defender Babes, Seasiders Babes, Kada Queens, Borno Spiders, and Plateau Vipers all secured victories yesterday at the on-going Prudent Energy Handball League currently holding at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, Rowe Park, Yaba.

The results, which gave some of the teams a new lease of life on the table, saw Peacocks defeating Safety Babes 34 to 31, while Kada Queens fought hard to secure a 26 to 25 narrow win over Abia Valiants.

In other matches, Defender Babes defeated Owena Queens 39 to 27, while Seasiders Babes hammered Desert Queens 25 to 15 to round off yesterday’s women’s events at the championship.

In the men’s cadre, Plateau Vipers humbled Prison Key Boys 26 to 21, while Kano Pillars, which put up a good fight, eventually succumbed to the willpower of Borno Spiders, losing the duel by 30 to 34.

The major highlight of the day was the performance of Kada Queens, which brightened their hope of getting a continental ticket.

Speaking to journalists at the end of his team’s feat, Kada Queens’ coach, Ahmed Habib praised the girls for adhering to instruction, describing their victory as a famous one over a very good side.

“Aside from studying our opponents early in the game, we also made sure our central defence was tight so that we could stop them from scoring.

“I am happy the girls played to instruction and I hope we can do better as the competition reaches the crucial stages,” he said.

He added that Kada Queens hoped to finish among the top four teams and pick a continental ticket.
