Jadon Sancho scored his first ever Champions League goal as Borussia Dortmund scored four to emphatically put away Atletico Madrid.

It was a statement performance from Lucien Favre’s side, who currently sit top of the Bundesliga table. This result put them top of Group A, with Dortmund one of the few sides to notch three wins from three games in this season’s Champions League.

Axel Witsel gave the hosts a first half lead after 38 minutes, finding the back of the net with a deflected strike from the edge of the box that wrong-footed Jan Oblak.

Atletico Madrid looked to have gathered themselves at the start of the second half, but their pressure amounted to nothing, with Dortmund doubling their advantage through substitute Raphael Guerreiro on 73 minutes.

Sancho, who has been the breakthrough star in the Bundesliga this season, added his name to the score sheet, finishing into an empty net from close range after good work from on loan Real Madrid full back, Achraf Hakimi down the left wing.

Guerreiro added a fourth with just seconds of regular time left on the clock, but the result had been decided well before then. This is a result that will make many around the European game sit up and take note.

In other games, Liverpool beat Crvena Zvezda 4-0 with goals by Robewrto Firmino, Mohammed Salah (twice) and Sadio Mane, while PSG relied on a late minute goal from Angel di Maria to hold Napoli 2-2.

PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham settled to a 2-2 draw, just as Porto beat Locomotiv Moscow 3-0 away from home.
